The People’s Boathouse
The docks of the River Clyde have been fundamental to the industrial development of the city of Glasgow. Largely abandoned since the decline in shipbuilding began in the nineteen-seventies, the docks provide a compelling opportunity for new activities that connect the city’s past with its future.
The People’s Boathouse intends to reconnect Glaswegians with their urban history in a sustainable way while also giving new opportunities for citizens to engage with the River Clyde. Re-imagining the grade-A listed Govan Graving Docks as sheltered harbours for sailing, rowing and paddleboarding, the scheme re-animates the waterfront with a new public space around a landmark boathouse. A bar and restaurant frame the landmarks of the River Clyde with a breathtaking riverside dining room.
